**Leslie Carmichael's children's novel Lyranel's Song just released**

Leslie Carmichael's children's novel Lyranel's Song has just been published by Blooming Tree Press.

Lyranel's Song is a medieval fantasy. From the cover: "When Lyranel wakes on her twelfth birthday bursting with Song, she is horrified and tries to hide her new gift from her father. Worse still, a terrible plague threatens her land. Lyranel must learn to come to terms with her new talent. If not, her land and her people just may not survive."

Leslie will be holding a launch in early 2006 (details yet to be finalized).

The book is available directly from Blooming Tree Press. The hardcover edition is available at the special holiday price of $16.95 US for a limited time.

Catherine MacLeod sells story to TaleBones

Catherine MacLeod has sold her short story "The Speed of Dark" to TaleBones. It should be in issue 32, due out in March, 2006.

Joe Mahoney-produced documentary on SF airs on The Arts Tonight Nov. 22

Joe Mahoney has produced a half-hour documentary on science fiction (where it's been, where it's at, and where it may or may not be going) that will air this coming Tuesday, November 22, on CBC Radio's The Arts Tonight. The documentary features Robert J. Sawyer, Robert Charles Wilson, Nalo Hopkinson and Jean-Louis Trudel. The Arts Tonight is a daily magazine show about the arts in Canada, covering theatre, dance, books, music and the visual arts. It airs weeknights at 10 p.m. (10:30 in Newfoundland) on CBC Radio One.

Suzanne Church, Eric Choi, Derwin Mak promoting anthology at Waterloo Chapters

Suzanne Church, Eric Choi and Derwin Mak will be hosting a reading/signing at Chapters in Waterloo on Saturday, January 28, at 1 p.m., promoting the anthology Northwest Passages: A Cascadian Anthology. Suzanne's story in the anthology is "Free Range." Eric Choi's story is "Plot Device," and Derwin Mak's is "Transubstantiation."

SF Canada member Sansoucy Kathenor (Walker) dies

SF Canada member Sansoucy Kathenor (Walker) died peacefully at her home in Ottawa on Saturday, November 5, 2005. She had been in ill health for the last year.

Her publications included a book of poetry, Temple into Time, and short stories such as "The Cinderella Caper," a Writers of the Future runner-up in 1985 (and apparently now being taught in a class on creativity and archetypes at a university in Virginia); "Mirror" and "A Spell in Time" in Fantasy Book; "Invasion" in the anthology Arc of Ice; and "Murder Undone," coauthored with Andrea Schlecht, in the anthology Over My Dead Body. At the time of her death she was working to complete a long novel.

In Ottawa, Sahn was the founder of the Lyngarde writers group, which is now in its third decade. Her writing had wit and deftness. Her criticism was direct and often penetrating. She could be eccentric and obdurate, but also kind and funny, and she is dearly missed by those who were close to her.
