Joe Mahoney story anthologized

Joe Mahoney's short story "Moonstone" is being anthologized in Distant Passages: The best of Double-Edged Publishing, 2005, scheduled for production sometime in 2006.

On the CBC Radio front, Joe is producing a pilot for a science fiction comedy series called Canadia, with writer Matt Watts of Steve the First (and Second) fame. The pilot will be recorded May 4. Joe is also currently working on a radio series called The Adventures of Apocalypse Al with writer J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5 fame, which will be broadcast throughout the summer on CBC Radio One.

Nancy Kilpatrick-edited anthology up for Stoker Award

Outsiders, edited by Nancy Kilpatrick and Nancy Holder and published by ROC, is a finalist for the 2006 Bram Stoker Award in the best anthology category.

Other anthology finalists are Corpse Blossoms, edited by Julia and RJ Sevin (Creeping Hemlock Press), Dark Delicacies: Original Tales of Terror and the Macabre, edited by Del Howison and Jeff Gelb (Carroll & Graf), and Weird Shadows over Innsmouth, edited by Stephen Jones (Fedogan and Bremer).

The Stokers will be presented at a banquet at the Horror Writers Association's annual conference, being held this year in Newark, New Jersey, June 16 to 18.

Michèle Laframboise wins Solaris Prize

Michèle Laframboise won the 2006 Solaris Prize for her SF short story "Le vol de l'Abeille" (Flight of the Honey Bee). The story will be published in the next issue of Solaris magazine. (Québec-based science-fiction magazine Solaris is the oldest Canadian SF magazine, in its 32th year of publication.) Michèle will also draw the accompanying illustration.

Michèle's next comic book, "Séance de signatures" (Book Signing) will be published by Fichtre!, a Montréal-based independent comic publisher, next May. Michèle;s last comic book was published in 1997.

Finally, the Ontario Arts Council has granted Michèle a subvention for writing her next novel. "This novel will be aimed at a more mature audience than my previous YA books," Michèle says. "It is the first time in more than 25 years of creation that I get a grant for my work. It is very welcome!"

Steven Mills SF novel launching at Norwescon

Steven Mills (www.stevenmills.com) is launching his debut science fiction novel, Burning Stones, at Norwescon in Seattle, Washington, April 13 to 16. Burning Stones, published by Cosmos Books, an imprint of Wildside Press, distributed by Baker & Taylor (USA) and Ingram Book (Canada), is available through independent bookstores, Chapters/Indigo, and online at Amazon.

These past few weeks have seen a flurry of fiction publications from Claude Lalumière: "This Is the Ice Age" in Mythspring (Red Deer Press), edited by Julie Czerneda and Genevieve Kierans, "Motherfucker" in Red Scream, and "The Four Elements" in Reflection's Edge #15.

Robyn Hay sells short story to Nanobison

Robyn Hay has sold short story "Homecoming" to Nanobison.

Edward Willett novel coming out in paperback from DAW

Edward Willett has sold mass-market paperback rights to his SF novel Lost in Translation, published last year in hardcover by Gale Group/Five Star, to DAW Books. The paperback version is due out in October. Ed has also signed on with agent Ethan Ellenberg, who will be marketing both his adult and YA fiction.
